176 Lincoln Street

The proposal for 176 Lincoln Street is an adaptive re-use that preserves large portions of structural framework, while selectively demolishing the building to reveal an urbanism in the form of a high-density, mixed-use development. The site and building’s robust structural capacity lends itself to a strategy for subtractive design, where selective demolition of the interior floor plates conforms the building to standard leasing depths. The un-built portion of the site accommodates additional structures, suggesting a cut and fill approach, where building mass is hollowed out of the existing structure and added to the open space along the Mass Pike.
